ENHANCE YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE

ENHANCE YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE

Everyone else is enjoying the joys of spring except for you – you feel exhausted and dragged down by typical allergy symptoms like asthma and itching. Sound familiar? You’re not alone – some 25 million people in Germany suffer from allergies. And for many of us, they represent a burden to be overcome on a daily basis. But this doesn’t have to be the case. At Skin & Aesthetic in Frankfurt, we are able to effectively identify and treat allergies and rashes.

WHAT ARE ALLERGIES?

WHAT ARE ALLERGIES?

Allergies are the immune system’s over-sensitivity to otherwise harmless substances. This then triggers immune responses within the body which are expressed in a variety of ways, and often visible on the skin.

These responses include neurodermatitis, hay fever or food allergies. The most common signs of an allergic reaction are:

  • Redness
  • Skin rashes
  • Itching
  • Eczema
  • Swelling
  • Coughing, shortness of breath, asthma, excessive sneezing
  • Life-threatening allergic shock

Do you suffer from an allergy? We’re here to help and do everything in our power to improve your quality of life. We can diagnose your allergy based on your detailed medical history and a wide range of allergy testing, such as skin tests, provocation tests and lab tests.

Allergy testing at Skin & Aesthetic in Frankfurt

Do you often suffer from allergy symptoms that impact your quality of life? If so, we can help. Here’s a brief outline of the most common allergy tests we offer:

PRICK TEST

The prick test is carried out if a patient is suspected of being allergic to a specific substance. To carry out the test, test solutions from the most common allergy-triggering substances are applied to your lower arm. These include common types of pollen, dust mites, animal substances and mould spores. The “prick needle” is then used to lightly pierce the skin, allowing the solutions to penetrate through the first layer of skin. After 15 to 20 minutes, we can then establish the strength and scope of the reactions based on the wheal response.

INTRACUTANEOUS TEST

In this testing procedure, the test solutions are introduced into the upper layer of skin, where they trigger a reaction similar to the prick skin test.

EPICUTANEOUS PATCH TEST

The epicutaneous test is a suitable method for identifying late allergic reactions, as is the case with contact allergies. In contrast to hay fever, the immune system in these cases only reacts several hours to days later. This delayed reaction is termed a type IV allergy. Corresponding allergens are often found in cosmetics or fashion jewellery.

BLOOD TEST

The RAST test is used to establish how many allergy-triggering antibodies (IgE) are present in the blood. This method is often used alongside other testing procedures in order to establish the degree of sensitisation and allergy.

TREATING ALLERGIES

After establishing what type of allergy you have, we then treat it with targeted measures.

Avoidance

Some allergies can be reduced or even completely sidestepped by avoiding the allergenic substances that trigger them. These might be specific materials, such as fashion jewellery, or types of food. If it’s not possible to avoid the allergenic substances in your daily life, hyposensitisation is a particularly good solution.

HYPOSENSITISATION

HYPOSENSITISATION

Hyposensitisation is an ideal way of treating allergies in the long term. The aim of this approach is to familiarise your immune system with the allergenic substance. To this end, the body is intentionally irritated with the allergen over the course of several weeks. The dosage is increased with every appointment. This allows the body to become familiar with the substance and its reaction to it will then diminish accordingly.
