Gentle preventative care

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is used for the gentle and permanent treatment of superficial skin tumours. This includes actinic keratoses as a precursor to skin cancer. Superficial basaliomas can also be treated with photodynamic therapy. As a result, photodynamic therapy is an important tool in the treatment of early-stage skin cancer.

One substantial advantage compared to a surgical procedure is that no visible scars are left behind by this type of therapy. In addition to the actual lesion, other sun damage such as the cornification of actinic keratoses, which is often scattered over larger areas, can be recorded and treated in its entirety.

This gentle treatment is performed on an outpatient basis. On the day of your treatment, a photosensitizer is applied to the diseased areas of skin and covered with an adhesive plaster. After this period of contact, the spot to be treated is irradiated for around 10 minutes. After the treatment, check-ups are made every six months to ensure the treatment has been permanently successful.
